LaVonne Magner, 93, of Chanute, and a former rural Galesburg, Neosho County, Kansas       resident, passed away at 12:40 p.m., Saturday, June 22, 2024, at the Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Sedgwick County, Kansas. 

Carolyn LaVonne was born on June 3, 1931, at Lehigh, Webster County, Iowa to Laurence and Irene Myrtle (Ashbaugh) Gibbs.  She grew up at Lehigh, Iowa and Neosho Falls, Kansas where she attended school.

LaVonne and Jerald Brooke Magner were united in marriage on January 20, 1948.  He preceded her in death on September 25, 2006.  They lived in Neosho Falls where they had a service station until the flood in 1951 occurred. 

They moved to rural Galesburg where they farmed and had a dairy operation until 1986.  They then moved to Branson, Missouri where they managed a motel until 1998.  They enjoyed their time there and made many friends across the country.  She loved to cook, bake, make homemade candy, and have holiday gatherings.  Her greatest joy was her family and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

LaVonne is survived by her son, Leon Laurence Magner, and his wife, Pattie of Denison, TX, her daughter, Leita Carolyn Thurman and her husband, Mick of Erie; her daughter-in-law, Judy Magner of Erie; her grandchildren; Kim Lamb and her husband, Ron; Casey Magner and his wife, Angie; Travis Magner, Jarrett Thurman and his wife, Ginny; Amy Stevens and her husband, Chris; Gabriel Thurman and his wife, Anna; Jordan Thurman and his wife, Kayla; and many great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Galen Ralph Magner on December 3, 2022, her daughter, Cleita Irene Magner on May 6, 1976, her parents, four brothers; Allen Gibbs, Marvin Gibbs, Leland Gibbs and Warren Gibbs; two sisters; Evelyn Dudley and Shirley Terry.

Private memorial graveside services will be held at the Mt. Hope Cemetery in Galesburg later.  Memorials are suggested to the Galesburg Christian Church.

Linda Ann (Magner) Snead, 69 of Topeka, passed away Friday, November 12, 2021.

Linda was born December 13, 1951, Wichita, Kansas, the second of five children of Albert and Dollie (Gentry) Magner.  She is a 1969 graduate of Highland Park High School of Topeka.  Linda married Dennis Harold Snead on August 27, 1971, in Topeka.

She attended the Continental School of Cosmetology and was a hairdresser for several years.  Linda worked at Harry's IGA as a cashier and bookkeeper and with JM Bauersfeld's Grocery as a Human Resource Manager for 15 years.  She was the Manager of Human Resources at AAA Kansas for 14 years until she retired.

Linda was active in Kansas Mothers Against Drunk Driving and spoke to DUI offenders on the Victim Impact Panels in Lawrence for many years.

Survivors include her husband, Dennis; two sons, Jeffrey "Jeff" and William "Billy" Snead and two grandsons; Ayden and Xan Snead all of Topeka.  Other survivors include her mother, Dollie of Topeka, two sisters; Susan (Frank) Van Vleck of Peoria, AZ and Patricia (Adrian) Fitzmaurice of Olathe, KS; one brother; Richard (Debbi) Magner of Lee Summit, MO and sister-in-law, Ellen Magner of Topeka; 15 nieces and nephews and 19 great-nieces and nephews.  She is preceded in death by her father, Albert; brother, Barry Magner and nephew, Marc Van Vleck.

Barry Lee Magner, 60, of Topeka, passed away on Saturday, November 23, 2019.

He was born October 14, 1959 in Topeka, Kansas, the son of Albert, Jr. and Dollie Magner.

Barry graduated from Highland Park High School, Class of 1977.  He received his Bachelor's Degree from Friends University and his Master's Degree from Fort Hays State University.

He spent the majority of his career working in management for Yellow Freight and Family Service and Guidance Center.

On October 5, 1985, Barry married Ellen Eakin in Topeka, Kansas and spent the next 34 years together building a family.

Barry loved sports, was a great tennis player and an avid fan of Kansas City Chiefs and K-State University.  Music was also a strong passion of his.  Most of all, though, was his love and devotion to his family.

Survivors include his wife, Ellen Magner; sons, Paul (Sarah) Fuller, Barry Richard (Hayley) Magner and Cody Magner; one daughter, Julia (Shane) Baughman; grandchildren; Gabriel Fuller, Piper Baughman; his mother, Dollie Magner; sisters, Susan (Frank) Van Vleck, Linda (Dennis) Snead, Patricia (Adrian) Fitzmaurice; brother Richard (Debbi) Magner and several nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his father, Albert and one nephew, Marc D. Van Vleck.

Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Friday, November 29, 2019 at Grace Community Church, 4300 SW Burlingame Road, Topeka, Kansas 66609.  A funeral ceremony will follow at 12:30 p.m. at the church.  Burial will be at the Delia Cemetery in Delia, Kansas following the service. 

Memorial contributions may be made to Barry's family to designate at a later date.

                 1926 - 2009
Albert Magner, Jr. 83, loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather was released with love into Gods care June 24, 2009.  He was born March 1, 1926, the second of six children of Albert and Jennie (Gager) Magner. Albert was raised on the family farm near Galesburg, Kansas.  Albert graduated from Galesburg High School, where he was active in 4-H Club, participated in football, basketball and baseball. He then attended Kansas State University, where he was studying veterinary medicine until he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served in WWII as a Pharmacist Mate Third Class. After the Navy, he worked for several companies: buyer for Beech Aircraft in Wichita, Kansas; manager for Litwin Clothing Store, Swansons Discount Store, salesman for Stoffle Meats, and after retirement, he worked part-time for Coldwell Banker Real Estate, as an agent, all here in Topeka.
 
Albert was a member of the following; Masonic Lodge Orient 51, Scottish Rite, Arab Temple, Past Captain of Arab Patrol, Past President of Topless Unit, Past President of Kaw Valley Shrine Club, served on Kansas Shrine Bowl Board of Directors for nine years, serving as President for one year, Past Camaxtli of Camaxtli of Quetzalcotle, member of Royal Order of Jesters, also a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, Topeka Lodger #204.
 
Albert, Jr. and Dollie (Gentry) Magner were married March 17, 1949 in Calico Rock, Arkansas in the Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife, Dollie of 60 years. They were blessed with five children: Susan (Frank) Van Vleck of Cave Creek, Arizona; Linda (Dennis) Snead of Topeka; Richard (Debbi) Magner of Kinsale, Ireland; Patricia (Adrian) Fitzmaurice of Olathe and Barry (Ellen) Magner of Topeka.
 
He is also survived by 16 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, two sisters; Luretta Hanks of Calico Rock, Arkansas and Noretta Caldwell of Pittsburg, KS; two brothers; Irvin Magner of Chanute, KS and Lyle Magner of Liberal, KS.  Albert is preceded in death by his loving parents, a younger brother, Elford Magner and a grandson, Marc Van Vleck.  A funeral service will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, June29th at Penwell Gabel Mid-Town Chapel, Topeka, Kansas. Interment will follow at 2:00 p.m. at Galesburg Cemetery in Galesburg, Kansas. Visitation will be on Sunday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be given to the Arab Shrine Travel Fund, 1305 S. Kansas Avenue, Topeka, 66612.
