John Edward Magner wife, Mary Catherine MILLER Magner Obituary

The Parsons Daily Sun Newspaper
Wednesday, May 12, 1937 - Front Page

Mrs. Magner Dies
Parsons Resident Since 1905
Heart Attack Victim

Mrs. Mary Magner, 75, a resident of Parsons since 1905, died at 1:30 o'clock this morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Carl Davis, 1528 Appleton, as the result of a heart attack.  Although she had been in poor health for several weeks, she was able to attend church last Sunday, [May 9] when she received the First Baptist Church Award for being the oldest mother present.  She suffered a heart attack Monday night and another yesterday noon.

Mary Catherine Miller was born in Lawrence County, Indiana, April 14, 1862.  In 1882, she was married to John Edward Magner, also of Lawrence County and they came to Kansas, settling on a farm near Galesburg.  They lived there with the exception of four years spent in Missouri, until 1905 when they came to Parsons.  Mr. Magner died here December 28, 1920.

Mrs. Magner was a member of the Baptist church from the time she was 16 years old and has been an active member of the Parsons church during her residence here.  She had a wide circle of friends here who will be shocked to learn of her death.

Surviving her are two daughters; Mrs. Charles Hollar, 1701 Appleton and Mrs. Carl Davis, 1528 Appleton; two sons, Walter Magner, 2203 Crawford and Frank Magner, 1714 Stevens; a half-sister, Mrs. Anna Layton, East St. Louis, Illinois; 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 o'clock Friday afternoon at the First Baptist Church, with the Rev. Walter P. Arnold, assisted by the Rev. W.H. Tolliver, Kansas City, Kansas, officiating.  Burial will be in Oak Wood Cemetery.  The body will lie in state at the Rude Funeral Home tonight and at the home, 1528 Appleton, after the noon hour tomorrow.

Lanville Milton Magner
