Jennie (Gager) Magner's words from the booklet, Many Memories Jennie --
I was married July 7, 1923. Everyone kept asking when are you to be married? I think you're already married, so Albert and I thought we had the name, so might as well do it. We went to Girard saying we were looking for furniture. We were married and afterwards went to a small café across from the courthouse and had watermelon to celebrate the event. When we returned home, he went to his parent's home and me to mine. His parents and younger sister Mildred were to move into Galesburg as soon as the house they had bought was ready to live in.
After we had been married a month or so Albert's mother found the marriage license in his overcoat pocket. Horrors - "Did you have to marry?" I think it was a big disappointment to a lot of people in the neighborhood that it wasn't so. Ha!
