Mrs. Nora Gager Dies Wednesday
Well Known- Resident of This Vicinity Passes Away at Johnson Hospital in ChanuteThayer and vicinity was shocked and saddened to hear of the sudden death of Mrs. Nora Gager, which occurred at Johnson Hospital in Chanute, Wednesday evening, April 19, following a major operation which she underwent there Tuesday.
Mrs. Gager, who lived east of Sapp Schoolhouse, southeast of Thayer, had been in poor health for a long time although she was able to be up and around some lately. She was taken to the hospital Monday evening for an operation, which was the only thing which would restore her to health, but the shock of the operation was more than she could stand.
She was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Hughes and was born southeast of Galesburg, September 4, 1876, being 62 years, 7 months and 16 days of age at the time of her passing. She was married to Jesse J. Gager, November 24, 1898 in Galesburg, seven children being born to this union.
Survivors are her husband; six daughters, Mrs. Jennie Magner of rural Parsons, Mrs. Eva Kramer and Mrs. Zella Hizey of rural Galesburg, Mrs. Dorothy Weirich of Bush City, Kansas and Miss Mary and Miss Opal of the home; one son, Floyd, at home and one brother, W.O. Hughes of Buckingham, Colorado; five sisters, Mrs. Cora Yeamans of Portland, Oregon; Mrs. Ella Ramsey of Wichita, Kansas; Mrs. Lestie Johnson of Long Beach, California; Mrs. Mollie Kent of Monterey Park, California and Mrs. Barbara Gardner, also of California, several grandchildren, nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
Mrs. Gager was a member of the United Brethren Church, the Ladies of G.A.R. (Grand Army of the Republic) and the Royal Neighbor Lodge.
Funeral services will be held in the M.E. Church here at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon, conducted by the Rev. Ira Nicklin, pastor, and the Rev. L.C. Swan of Erie, Kansas. Burial will be in the Galesburg cemetery. The Wilson Funeral Home is in charge of these arrangements.
