GALESBURG - Herschel C. Rambo, member of a pioneer farm family in this community died at 7:15 a.m. Saturday at Parsons Mercy Hospital following an illness of several weeks.

Rambo was born the son of Richard and Elizabeth Rambo on June 9, 1867 [notice the obituary states 1867 while the headstone reads 1869] at Piasa, Illinois and lived there until he was nine years old.  He moved with his parents to Nebraska, where the family lived a few years before coming to Chanute.  From the latter city they moved to a farm 3 3/4 miles south of Galesburg, his home since that time.

He was married October 30, 1890 at Galesburg to Minnie Magner, who survives.  Also surviving are a son, Earl of rural Galesburg; three brothers, A.R. of Windham, New York, E.E. of Beatrice, Nebraska and E.C. Selah, Washington; one granddaughter and two great grandchildren.

Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Galesburg Methodist Church under directions of the Rev. O.F. Simon, assisted by J.C. Walker and burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery here.

The body is at the Pierce Funeral Home in Erie, Kansas and will be taken from there to the church at 1 p.m. Tuesday.
