ELDON R. SPRINGER
THAYER -- Eldon R. Springer, 70 of Thayer, Kansas died at 4:55 p.m. Sunday, October 30, 1994 at St. Francis Hospital, Tulsa, Oklahoma where he entered earlier that day.  He had been ill for a short time but his death was unexpected.

He was born June 10, 1924 in Galesburg to Douglas and Audlene (Magner) Springer.  He grew up in the Galesburg area, graduating from Galesburg High School in 1942.  He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II then returned to the Galesburg area, where he worked in construction and farming.  In 1966 he moved to Thayer, where he owned and operated Fireside Inn.

Mr. Springer was a member of the George L. Hendricks Post No. 102, American Legion in Erie and the Cecil J. Meeker Post 1654, Veterans of Foreign Wars in Chanute.  He was an avid camper and fisherman and enjoyed traveling.

Survivors include two sons; Richard of Girard, Kansas and Ernie of Haysville, Kansas; three daughters, Donna Graham of Goddard, Kansas, Vickie Trembly of Chanute, Kansas and Cindy Johnson of Wichita, Kansas; 12 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, a friend and companion, Eutha (Heck) Turley of the home; a brother, Jean of Grove, Oklahoma and a sister, Neola Mae Matson of Smith Center, Kansas.

The service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Pierce-Carson-Wall Funeral Home of Erie, Kansas with Darin Mabe, pastor officiating.  Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery at Galesburg with military rites conducted by the Chanute VFW Post 1654.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.  The family suggests memorials to the American Cancer Society.
