Mrs. Etta Mae Magner

Mrs. Etta Mae Magner, widow of the late Samuel B. Magner, passed away at her home in Galesburg Sunday April 9, 1961 at 4:15 p.m. at the age of 90 years, 2 months and 5 days.

Born February 4, 1871, the daughter of Christopher and Elvina Boje who were pioneer settlers of the Galesburg community coming from Illinois.  She was the oldest living white child born in the community and had always lived within a radius of ten miles of her birth place.

She united with the Galesburg Christian Church on February 7, 1887 and was the oldest living member, she worked faithfully with the ladies organizations and attended services as long as her health permitted.

She was united in marriage at the home of her parents to Mr. Magner on September 15, 1891 and to this union, four children were born; Ralph Jerald Magner, Mrs. Audlene Mae (D.G.) Springer and  Lanville Albert Magner, all of rural Galesburg and Mrs. Mildred Anna (Fred) Clark, Cheyenne, Wyoming. 

Mr. Magner passed away December 22, 1943.  Mrs. Magner was the last survivor of her family.  Her brothers and sister had all preceded her in death.  Other survivors besides the four children are 15 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at the Galesburg Christian Church at 2 p.m. April 11, 1961 with Mr. Myrl Powers, minister, officiating, assisted by Dr. Fred Clark of Cheyenne, Wyoming.

Mrs. W.E. Allen at the piano accompanied Mrs. Lloyd Dulavey and Mrs. Raymond Vaughn who sang, "Will The Circle Be Unbroken" and "Beyond the Sunset."

Pall bearers were grandsons of the deceased; Jean Springer of Cherryvale; Jerald Magner, rural Parsons; Albert Magner, Jr. of Topeka; Elford Magner, Newton; Lyle Magner, Parsons and Eldon Springer of Galesburg.

Flowers were cared for by Mrs. Inez Gear, Mrs. Harold Lambertson, Mrs. Floy Miller and Mrs. Fred Hall.

Relatives and friends from out of town attended the funeral were; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Clark, Cheyenne, Wyoming; Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Magner, Parsons; Mr. and Mrs. Albert Magner, Jr. and two daughters, Topeka; Mr. and Mrs. Elford Magner, Newton; Mr. and Mrs. Merritt Caldwell, Pittsburg; Mr. and Mrs. Roy B. Hanks and two sons, Grandview, Missouri; Mr. Fred and Miss Kathleen Springer, Mocreadle, Missouri; Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Brown and Mrs. Ruth Nutter, Coffeyville; Mrs. Leilia Dunham, Mrs. Oden Dunham, Stark; Mr. and Mrs. Hollis Dunham and Mr. and Mrs. Herman Simmons, Erie; Mr. and Mrs. Joe Mudd, Mrs. Walter Bell and Mr. and Mrs. John O. Green, Chanute; Mr. and Mrs. E. M. Mendenhall, Thayer; Mr. and Mrs. Jean Springer, Cherryvale; Mrs. Larry Matson and Douglas Smith, Center.
