In Memory of Ludwig Patrick Indihar October 14, 1923 - November 13, 2017Ludwig Patrick Indihar passed away peacefully at the age of 94 in his home he built in the Milpitas foothills, on Monday, November 13, 2017. A resident of Milpitas since 1958, Ludwig was one of three children born in Cherokee County, Kansas, raised by immigrant parents, Antone J. "Tony" and Pauline (Dernovish) Indihar on a farm.
Ludwig joined the United States Army on December 23, 1943 at Leavenworth, Kansas and was honorably discharged on November 4, 1945.
While working at Boeing after World War II, he met and married the love of his life for 72 years, Adalyn Elvina Magner. Their union would bring them a full family and loads of adventure.
Ludwig graduated from Kansas University (Lawrence, Kansas) in 1949, with a Mechanical Engineering Degree and the Indihar family set out for Poughkeepsie, New York as Ludwig took a job with IBM. Then in 1955, they relocated to Livermore, California where Ludwig took a job with the Livermore Lab. In 1958, the family set their permanent roots in the new town of Milpitas, California when Ludwig was hired by Lockheed and eventually retired 25 years later.
Ludwig "Lud" loved square dancing with Adalyn, "Ad" traveling all over the country as a private pilot, volunteering with the church, car clubs and lots of family adventures.
Among his many achievements and accomplishments, he notes his greatest, is the building of the family home in the Milpitas hillside, as he also used his mechanical design knowledge to draft the design for the home. Adalyn still resides there today!
Tom Brokaw in his book, "The Greatest Generation" describes Ludwig Indihar..."They came of age during the Great Depression and the Second World War and went on to build modern America - men and women whose everyday lives of duty, honor, achievement and courage gave us the world we have today."
