Estel Ann Mudd, 79, Chanute, died Friday May 1, 2009 at her home.
Ann was born in Galesburg, Kansas on July 13, 1929, the daughter of Ralph and Dica (Brooke) Magner. She graduated from Galesburg High School in the Class of 1947, and graduated from the Pittsburg Teacher's College and taught in several area county schools.
She was united in marriage to Joe Mudd on December 22, 1950 in Galesburg. He survives.
Shortly after teaching, Ann served as the Neosho County Treasurer. Later she owned and operated a clothing store in Chanute and wrote articles for the Chanute Tribune.
She was a life-long member of the Christian Church.
Ann is survived by her husband, Joe, of the home; a son, Wayne E. Mudd and his wife, Peggy, Chanute; a daughter, Ronda A. Howerter and her husband, Bernard, Coffeyville; four grandchildren, Chris and Stephanie Edwards, Bella Vista, Arkansas; and Erica and Conner Mudd, Chanute; a great-grandson, Cason Harris; and two sisters; Corenne Simmons, Erie and Adalyn Indihar, Milpitas, California.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Jerald Magner.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. on Monday, May 4 at the First Christian Church in Chanute. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery - Chanute, Kansas - Neosho County.
The family will receive friends on Sunday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Penwell-Gabel Gibson Chapel.
Memorials in her name may be made to the First Christian Church Memorial Fund and may be left with the funeral home.

Bernard "Joe" Joseph Mudd, age 87 of Chanute, KS passed away on Saturday, October 22, 2016 in Chanute. Joe was born on August 18, 1929 on a farm near Walnut, Kansas, the son of Theodore and Ada (Watts) Mudd.
On December 22, 1950, Joe married Estel Ann Magner in Galesburg, KS where they lived together before moving to Chanute in 1960. Estel preceded Joe in death on May 1, 2009.
Joe grew up in rural Galesburg and graduated from Thayer High School in 1947. He worked as a Production Manager for GEO Churchill for over 30 years before his retirement. After his retirement he worked part-time as an inspector for Young's Welding and for Chase Contractors doing maintenance work. He also volunteered his time as a reserve police officer and instructor for many years.
Joe was a former member of the Mirza Shriners of Pittsburg, KS and a former member of MG Club. He was also a former member of the Scottish Rite Cedar Lodge #103. In his free time he enjoyed collecting antique cars, going to car shows and following his grandkid's activities. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Chanute and was for a time, a volunteer with the food pantry there.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Estel and his brother, Eugene Mudd.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, October 27, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Christian Church in Chanute. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 28, 2016 from 5-7 p.m. at Countryside Funeral Home, Gibson Chapel. Online condolences may be left at: wwwcountrysidefh.com
